The Houston City Council on Monday approved up to $30,000 to construct additional classroom space at the Piney River Technical Center, an education venue planned at a Spruce Street building.
The six-member council gave its unanimous consent to the expenditure following a presentation July 1 by Brad Rees of the Industrial Development Authority of the City of Houston, which owns the 47,000 square foot building.
The center will be used to teach various vocational skills, general education and would allow students to earn a four-year degree, if they desire. The Houston School District, Texas County Memorial Hospital and Mineral Area College are working on the project. A meeting to highlight progress was held last week at a Drury University meeting room. Drury University and Cox College already hold classes in the building.
