Lee Leland VanNote, 88, son of Lyle and Delma (Shryock), was born June 6, 1931, in Carsonville, Mo. He passed away on July 17, 2019, at his home in Houston, Mo.

He spent his grade school years attending many rural grade schools such as Bucyrus, Pine Ridge, Indian Creek and White Rock as well as Houston High School. He received his GED while in the military serving in Hawaii.

He entered the United States Air Force at a young age and performed his duties in Korea and Vietnam, retiring after 21 years with the rank of master sergeant. He returned to Houston, Mo., to farm and was employed as assistant city police chief for the Houston Police Department. He also served for eight years as a deputy sheriff under Sheriff Dean Belshe with the Texas County Sheriff’s Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Linda Kay Williams; a brother, Donald Eugene VanNote; and his wife, Glenda (Mobley) VanNote.

He is survived by his children, Lyle Leslie VanNote and wife, Shirley, Chaney VanNote and Delma Geisler and husband, Rick; sisters, Peggy, Margie, Mary Belle and Dorothy; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a step-daughter, Robin Prewitt.

Lee loved fishing and being outdoors. He also loved biscuits and gravy and spending time visiting with friends.

A memorial visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Evans Funeral Home. Per his wishes, he was cremated under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
