A valuable source of news and information for graduates of Houston High School is the Houston Alumni Association.
Association president Angie Long said the organization’s mission is to help HHS alumni “stay in touch.”
Among the ways that’s accomplished is by helping coordinate class reunions and other activities each fall on “alumni weekend,” which takes place during HHS homecoming. The association also awards scholarships to select students through an endowment fund, with amounts determined by interest earned by the endowment.
Long said there are about 300 dues-paying members in 2019. Each July, the association publishes an 8-page newsletter –– “Tiger Tails” –– that details events, important dates, class reunions and other information pertinent to HHS alumni.
The Houston Alumni Association holds meetings at 4 p.m. on the fourth Monday of even-numbered months (except December) in the library at Houston Elementary School. Annual membership costs $10 per person.
Volunteers to help with alumni weekend activities are always welcome.
