The City of Houston is seeking a parks and recreation director.

The City of Houston is seeking a person to lead its parks and recreation department.

Kayla Sloan has led the city office for about a year before resigning. She replaced Rowdy Douglas, who left for the Texas County Sheriff’s Department and later became interim sheriff.

The next leader will oversee various recreation programs offered in the community and the operation of the Houston Municipal Swimming Pool, as well as development of a plan for use of revenue generated by a sales tax approved by voters earlier this year. Of the one-cent tax, half goes to parks programs.  Its collection has not started. The employee also collaborates with the park board and others in the community.

On the drawing board is the construction of a new swimming pool.

City officials said the city offers soccer, basketball, baseball, softball programs and flag football.

The city says the position includes some work outside business hours and also involvement with maintaining the playing fields, including mowing.

Persons interested can submit a resume with at least three references to City of Houston, 601 S. Grand Ave., Houston, Mo. 65483. The deadline is Sept. 9.
