The biggest annual event in Houston takes place each summer: The combination of the Old Settlers Reunion and Texas County Fair.
Sponsored by the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce, the OSR completed its 109 th year in 2019. Over the past several years, the event has become synonymous with major attractions and activities including monster trucks shows, concerts with big-name acts like popular Christian rock band Hawk Nelson, a carnival midway and more. The highlight of the 2019 edition was a motocross and BMX show staged by a group professional riders from Wisconsin.
The Texas County Fair was added to the Old Settlers Reunion in 1951, primarily for the purpose of youth livestock showing and competition. Overseen and conducted by the Texas County Fair Board, it now annually features animal activities in several categories – including beef, sheep, goats, swine and rabbits – and concludes with the popular junior livestock auction.
For the past several years, another popular event at the fair is the “sheep and goat fashion show,” in which competitors and animals dress in costumes and are paraded in front of a panel of judges.
Both events are held at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds on U.S. 63 at the city limits. Get more information online at chamberhoustonmo.com or www.texascountyfairboard.com.
