A suspect in the shooting of two law enforcement officers walked away from the scene and surrounded to officers at about 5 p.m. Friday.

Officers from this area are among those mobilized to Carter County, where a deputy and a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer were shot Friday morning.

Authorities said the scene near Van Buren is surrounded by law officers and roadblocks are in the area. A state patrol helicopter is on the scene. Numerous state, federal and county officers are in the area. The ATF and FBI are assisting in the investigation as they look for the suspect, who is believed still in the house.

MSHP officials say the deputy was flown from the scene for medical care at a St. Louis area hospital. The trooper was shot in the shoulder and in his vest, while the deputy was shot in the leg, groin and chest. 

The trooper was treated and released from a Bootheel hospital.

Few details have been released.
