MICHAEL H. MORGAN

A vehicular pursuit involving officers from the Texas County Sheriff’s Department and Cabool Police Department on Wednesday  concluded with an already wanted man being arrested and several new charges being filed against him.

Michael H. Morgan, 48, of 2215 Stoney Point Drive at Mountain Grove, was charged with felonies of resisting arrest by fleeing, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance, along with misdemeanors of failure to drive on the right half of the roadway and driving while revoked.

According to a report, a deputy assisted a Cabool police officer with a traffic stop on Business 60. But when the police officer asked the driver – Morgan – to exit the Chevrolet pickup he was driving, the truck sped away.

Both officers pursued, and the deputy reported seeing the truck traveling down the middle of the roadway at about 70 miles per hour. Morgan’s truck reportedly left Business 60 and traveled at a high rate of speed on Nevill Road and Vernon Road, before eventually going around a home through its yard and heading back onto Nevill Road.

The Cabool officer terminated pursuit, but the deputy continued and requested that the CPD put spikes on Ozark Street. Morgan’s truck reportedly hit the spike strip and continued onto Highway 181.

But after both driver’s side tires went flat, the pickup reportedly came to a stop on Frisbee Road when it couldn’t make it up a hill. The deputy then detained Morgan and a Cabool officer took a female passenger out of the pickup.

During a subsequent search of the truck, four guns were reportedly found (three rifles and one pistol), as well as a container of methamphetamine. A computer check revealed that Morgan had previous felony convictions, and also had active warrants in Texas, Howell and Wright counties for receiving stolen property and a probation and parole violation. He was taken to the Texas County Jail with a bond set at $150,000.
