Rev. Gary Allen Carter, 65, of Licking passed away Dec. 20, 2019.  He was born on May 12, 1954, in Lexington, the son of Francis L. and Doris J. Hackely Carter. 

He was the pastor for the Licking United Methodist Church for the past four years.  Previously he had served as pastor in St. Joseph and Kennett.  The Rev. Carter received a master’s degree in divinity from Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City.  Gary enjoyed hunting, traveling, reading, listening and playing music, and he loved walking in the woods at his home.

Gary is survived by his wife, Dianne Slagel Carter of Licking; daughter, Jennifer Carter of Columbia; sons, Cory Carter of Mexico, Mo., and Nathan Carter of Columbia; brothers, Jeff Carter of St. Louis, David Carter of Williamsburg, Va., and George Carter of Wichita, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at the Licking United Methodist Church, 208 S. Main St., Licking, with the Rev. Mike Brown officiating.  A visitation will be held one hour before the service.
