Robert Houston Moyer, 85 of Cabool, Mo., passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at his home. He was born on June 1, 1934, in Pampa, Texas, the son of Paul and Mary Houston Moyer. His family then relocated back to Lamar, Colo., where he was raised and attended Lamar High School; while in school he was on the Lamar football team and a member of the FFA.
In his younger years he delivered International trucks for his uncle’s dealership. He met and married Suzan Delver in Raton, N.M., in September 1953. They had three children: Monica, Mike and Matt. They divorced in 2013.
Mr. Moyer’s lifelong dream was trucks. He worked a short time as a mechanic for GMC Trucks and Denver Chicago of Denver, Colo. He started his cattle ranching business when he worked for Fox Theater Registered Angus of Keensburg, Colo., and later Debbie Reynolds’ Haystack Angus Ranch at Platteville, Colo.
His first ranch was on the Lone Tree Creek at Carr, Colo. Mr. Moyer was the first president of the Lazy D Grazing Association as it incorporated the 26,000 acre sub ranch of the Warren Livestock Holding of Cheyenne, Wyo. He started raising registered Galloways at Carpenter, Wyo., which became one of the top herds in North America; selling registered black Galloways to several in Missouri and four Canadian providences, including Nova Scotia. He sold cattle to South Africa and Mexico. He was a charter member of the National Cattlemen’s Association in 1977, president of the American Galloway Breeders Association and a member of the National Western Stock Show Club 843.
Mr. Moyer moved the T-Bone Galloway herd to Houston, Mo., because he was a decedent of the town’s namesake, Sam Houston. He later also raised commercial black cattle until dispersing it due to drought in 2012.
In his later years he obtained his real estate license and sold for T-Bone Realty in Houston, Mo. He moved to Cabool in 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Terry Moyer of Parker, Colo.; his children, Monica Bolin of Summersville, Mike Moyer of Houston, Mo., and Matt Moyer of Sherwood, Ark., and five grandchildren.
Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, at the Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home chapel at Cabool.
