Richard Elmer Ebert, age 91, was born Dec. 20, 1928, to William Elmer and Clara Ann (McGowan) Ebert at the family home near Lesterville, Mo. He died Feb. 6, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
He attended grade school in Lesterville, Mo. Later in life, he went on to earn his GED. At 13 years old, he worked at his father’s sawmill, then went on to serve in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Korean war, stationed in Germany. He also worked as a Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes.
In 1963, he married Norma Sturgill, his wife of 56 years.
He owned and ran a store with his brother-in-law, Jerry, called Poor Richard’s in Licking, Mo. He worked for the Civil Service in Fort Leonard Wood until his retirement.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Willard, Clarence, Gilbert and Ray; his sisters, Mary Fields and Gladys Geisler; five nephews and one niece.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Colleen Ebert of the home in Houston, Mo.; a daughter, Kimberly Ebert and Tim Quirarte of Reeds Springs, Mo.; two sons, Kent Ebert and Kerry Martindale of Houston, Mo.; three grandchildren, Christopher, Michael and Elizabeth (Lily); two sisters, Faye Topper and husband Don, and Shirley Lemonik and Fotios Assimokopoulos; and many nieces, and nephews.
Richard was a Christian man. He was honest and truthful in his dealings with people. His word was his bond. He never met a stranger, as far as he was concerned everyone was his friend. Richard had a big, strong handshake.
He was a good uncle and dearly loved his many nephews and nieces. He was a wonderful father, and husband, and especially enjoyed being a grandfather to Christopher, Michael and Lily. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation is 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday Feb. 13, 2020 at Evans Funeral Home, with services beginning at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Bill Villapiano and Leon Slape officiating. Burial is in Hickory Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
