The chief nursing officer for Texas County Memorial Hospital was confirmed Tuesday as a member of the Missouri Board of Nursing.

Courtney Owens of Cabool was approved by the Missouri Senate following a gubernatorial appointment. This area is represented by Sen. Karla Eslinger, R-Wasola, who sponsored her.

The mission of the Missouri State Board of Nursing is to protect the public’s health and safety through regulation of nursing education, licensure and practice. There are six members.

The move came after several of the governor’s appointments were held up in the Missouri Senate.

An overnight filibuster in the Senate ended Tuesday morning as Republican senators reached agreement on advancing initiative petition changes and confirming a slate of Parson’s appointments.

Owens began her career with TCMH in 2003 as an LPN in med/surg, then moved away from Houston when her husband was deployed. She returned to TCMH in 2007 as an LPN at Home Health of the Ozarks and began the RN bridge program. After RN graduation in 2009, Owens went to work at TCMH Hospice of Care, and was promoted to director of Hospice of Care in 2010.  In 2017, she was promoted to Home Health of the Ozarks and Hospice of Care director. Most recently Owens served as the Quality Improvement/Risk Management director for TCMH, a nurse leadership position.

Owens earned her BSN in 2021 from Central Methodist University.
