A Houston High School alumnus has authored free software designed to prevent access to online pornographic and other objectionable material on the Internet.

Fred McKinney of West Plains developed F3OS — the Free Family-Friendly Operating System, which provides users access to filter the content. An updated version of the software, F3OS Junior, was released Jan. 31, which allows users to run a filter Linux system on older computers, too. (The download page is here: https://f3os.com/download)

McKinney, a 1986 HHS graduate, said he was prompted to develop the software because he was “deeply burdened over how easy, free and unrestricted access to online pornography has morally and spiritually ruined” the country.

F3OS is his attempt to combat that. It is based on the Linux operating system.

“F3OS is, after all, my declaration of war against online pornography and the destruction it causes for individuals and families everywhere and is my attempt to make computing and the Internet great again,” McKinney said.

Persons who would like to contact McKinney can do so at f3os@yahoo.com. He also is available to speak to groups.
