Texas County entities received about $132,771 through a U.S. Forest Service program. The distribution from the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program benefits communities in and around the Mark Twain National Forest.

In Missouri, about $2.6 million was distributed to be used for schools, roads and other services. This year’s payments were distributed to states in April. In Missouri, 27 counties received money.

The entities decide how to utilize the payments, officials said. Eligible categories are for roads and schools, projects on federal lands and governmental projects, such as fire readiness.

Officials said most of the funds normally go to schools and roadways in its forest communities.

Top distributions to counties: Dent ($150,403), Douglas ($105,932), Howell ($106,162) ,Oregon ($200,950), Reynolds ($190,129), Ripley ($166,471), Shannon ($181,554), Taney ($113,519) and Wayne ($172,728).
