Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Houston High School baseball team rallied for 8 runs on the way to an 11-1 victory over Ava in a run-rule shortened, 6-inning South Central Association conference game Thursday at Tiger Field in Houston.

The Tigers batted around and had 7 hits during the outburst, including a 2-run double by senior Sheldon Starr and RBI doubles by seniors Grayson Mitchell and Stone Jackson.

Houston scored 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and the contest ended on a walk-off RBI single by junior Shaun Buck that followed 5 straight walks.

Houston finished with 9 hits, with 7 different players getting at least 1 and 8 different players scoring at least 1 run. Buck and senior catcher Aiden Kelly each had multi-hit outings, as Buck went 2-for 4 with a double, 2 RBIs and a run scored and lead-off batter Kelly went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and 2 runs.

Senior Wyatt Hughes got on base in all four of his trips to the plate, going 1-for-1 with 3 walks and an RBI.

Buck went the distance on the mound, allowing 4 hits and no earned runs while striking out 9 and walking only 1.

The Diamond Tigers (8-6, 2-3 SCA) host an SCA matchup with Willow Springs on Monday and host Summersville on Tuesday.
