The City of Houston’s water department was recently awarded for having the best water quality in the state by the Missouri Rural Water Association (MRWA).

The department competed in the “Show-Me Tap Water Roundup” contest with 37 other organizations from across the state based on three criteria: clarity, bouquet (smell) and taste. In February, the city’s water will travel to Washington, D.C., to represent the state nationwide.

“We are very excited to receive this award and represent Missouri on the national level,” said Bob Richards, department supervisor. “We work diligently to ensure that the citizens of Houston have good, clean water, and this award speaks to our dedication.”

Other department members include Steve Floyd, Brad Smith and Dustin Hartman.

The City of Houston’s water source consists of four deep wells that pump to the town’s two standpipes and one elevated water tower. Houston’s water is non-chlorinated.

“The MRWA congratulates the City of Houston for its exceptional water quality and hopes that it will earn its deserved recognition before a national panel of judges,” said Howard Baker, MRWA executive director.
