An area man faces a felony charge following a multi-agency investigation of alleged sexual misconduct last week.

Rex L. Wood, born in 1963, of 901 W. North St., trailer 12, in Mountain Grove, is charged with abuse or neglect of a child – sexual contact (a class D felony) and second-degree sexual abuse (a misdemeanor).

A Texas County Sheriff’s Department deputy reported assisting the Houston Police Department on April 25 regarding an assault investigation in Bucyrus involving Wood and a girl under the age of 18. The victim’s mother told the officer she had pepper-sprayed Wood after he molested her daughter the previous night.

The victim told the deputy she had been asleep on the couch and been awakened by Wood multiple times, and she alleged he had touched her inappropriately.

Wood was contacted during the investigation and stated that he had been pepper-sprayed for no reason and had touched the girl, but had not sexually assaulted her.

Wood is held in the Texas County Jail on $2,000 cash-only bond.
