Several new paintings featuring Emmett Kelly Sr. were highlighted in a ceremony Saturday afternoon on Grand Avenue.

The work of Barbara White, the three paintings depict Weary Willie, the world-famous creation of Emmett Kelly Sr. He grew up on a farm east of Houston. A city park is named in his honor.

Among those attending the ceremony were Kelly’s daughter, Stasia; his grandson, Max; and Chris Berry, an officer of the Circus Historical Association, a national organization.

Volunteer Brenda Senter, who oversees the Kelly Festival, organized placing them downtown on a Gentry Construction Co. Inc. building that is south of Houston Senior Center.

An additional mural of Houston scenes is planned soon for the downtown business district. It will be placed on the west wall of the former Walgreen’s. Rinne Pharmacy is slated to take occupancy of the building. The project was organized by Tim Ceplina, Ward II alderman for the City of Houston.
