A Houston man was involved in a two-vehicle accident Sunday evening, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Ronald D. Nelson, 72, was driving his 2007 Ford E-350 van northbound on U.S. 63 one-half mile north of Brandsville when he crossed the center of the roadway, struck a guard rail, returned to the roadway and struck a 2019 Dodge 2500 truck driven by Sergo Vacharadze, 55 of Brooklyn, N.Y., head-on, patrol said.

Vacharadze and Nelson suffered serious injuries. Nelson was taken to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains. Vacharadze was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield.

Both drivers were wearing safety devices. Both vehicles were totaled.

Investigating the accident was Tpr. L. C. Pruiett. Assisting were Msgt. S. L. Nelson, Cpl. J. D. Wheeler and Tpr. A. K. Falterman.
