AT & T has deployed a mobile tower to the Licking area after its main one was not working, the Licking Fire Department announced.

Aaron Greathouse, fire chief, said he had been in contact with the communications giant regarding poor service recently in the Licking area.

“Friday evening they agreed to deploy a mobile FirstNet tower due to the tower in Licking being down. As of 8:30 a.m. (Saturday) they arrived and started the temporary tower setup. I want to be transparent about this tower deployment so that everyone understands how this process works,” he said.

“Once the tower is up and operational after its arrival, emergency cellular communication will be established for emergency personnel on the FirstNet network and to 911 calls from other customers, regardless of cell carrier, to be routed to 911 in Texas County even if your phone shows SOS only.”

This FirstNet mobile tower will be deployed until the AT&T tower in Licking is operational.

“I ask everyone to understand that access to emergency services is the first priority. I understand that this is frustrating and it will not fix all phone issues until the main tower is restored. Just know we are moving in the right direction,” Greathouse said.

Greathouse thanked the City of Licking Public Works Department and the City of Licking Police Department for their assistance.
