The Cabool Police Department handled calls and incidents recently, including two shoplifting incidents.
The department reported 37 traffic stops resulting in 20 summons issued. One arrest for a non-traffic offense was made.
At 11:18 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, officers responded to a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 63 and Parker Lane. A 2023 Toyota Prius operated by Zachary Visnosky, 26, of Kansas City, Kansas, was traveling northbound and ran off the left side of the road before coming to a rest in a ditch, officers said. Visnosky was transported by ambulance to Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. A probable cause statement was sent to the Texas County prosecutor requesting charges of exceeding the posted speed limit by 26 miles per hour or more, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.
At 8:57 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, officers responded to a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 60 west of Highway 181. A 2019 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Moises Perez, 22, of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, struck a deer in the road, officers said. No injuries were reported.
At 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, officers responded to the Casey’s General Store for a reported shoplifting which occurred earlier in the day. Officers were shown video of a male subject stealing alcohol from the store. The subject was not identified at the time. At 9:10 p.m., officers were called back to the store where the same subject had stolen items. Officers were able to identify the subject who was later located at a Summit Street residence. The subject was trespassed from the store.
At 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, officers responded to The Gas Station for a reported shoplifting incident that occurred Wednesday, Aug. 28. Video of the incident was obtained and the suspect was identified as Hunter Shannon. Shannon was located at a Summit Street residence and issued a summons for shoplifting and was trespassed from the property.
During the month of August, CPD officers worked a total of 19 hours of special traffic enforcement grants funded by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). During this time period, officers stopped 25 vehicles and issued 13 summons and 13 warnings for traffic violations.
In total, police handled two accidents, six animal complaints, three juvenile matters, one mental instability incident, two stealing/theft incidents, one suspicious activity incident, assisted other agencies five times, gave one private escort, assisted the public once and made one warrant arrest.
The fire department was dispatched 14 times.
