Sales tax revenue rose in Houston in August, while Cabool and Texas County experienced a decline in collections.
HOUSTON
A one-cent sales tax earmarked for parks, police and fire generated $81,108.39 for the month of August. That’s up $1,908.63 from the same period a year ago.
A one-cent general sales tax totaled $81,983.72. That’s an increase of $1,701.53 from the same period last year.
Two quarter-cent sales taxes – one for transportation and one for utility work – each totaled $20,277 in the month of August. That’s up $446 from the same period last year.
A use tax applied to out-of-state internet orders totaled $10,690.28 for the month. That’s down $2,270.32 from the same period last year.
CABOOL
A one-cent general sales tax totaled $29,144.28. That’s a decrease of $7,803.46 from the same period last year.
A half-cent sales tax for transportation needs totaled $14,572.26 in the month of August. That’s down $3,901.54 from the same period last year.
A use tax applied to out-of-state internet orders totaled $7,847.04 for the month. That’s down $1,264.64 from the same period last year.
A half-cent sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $13,717.86 for the month.
TEXAS COUNTY
For Texas County, merchants collect three half-cent sales taxes. Each totaled $116,119 for August, which represented an increase of $4,071 on each from the same period a year ago.
The sales tax on out-of-state sales totaled $65,745.15 for the month. That was down $22,778.52 from the same month in 2023.
Revenue from a three-eighths sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $80,084.72, which was up $7,157.94 for the month.
