The annual “Jakes Day” will be organized Saturday, Sept. 21, by the Current River Callers’ chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Missouri Department of Conservation.

The 11 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. event is at the Twin Pines Conservation Education Center at Winona.

Children ages 6 to 12 are invited, and the event features a variety of outdoor skills and outdoor activities geared to that age level, organizers said.

On-site registration is from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Lunch will also be served at that time.

Activities start at noon. The event is free, and each registered attendee, age 6-12, receives a free Jakes membership, will be entered in the day’s drawings and receive a goodie bag.

Jakes, a division of the National Wild Turkey Federation, stands for “Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship.”

This program provides opportunities and challenges in line with the abilities of youth. Jakes is dedicated to informing, educating and involving youth in wildlife conservation and the wise stewardship of our natural resources, organizers said.

Pre-registration is not required but be sure to register at the main building so children can complete their entry into the day’s events and drawings.

Twin Pines is 1.3 miles east of Winona on U.S. 60.
