The Houston Education Foundation (HEF) recently awarded three grants totaling $2,774.34 to the Houston R-1 School District.

The first grant – in the amount of $1,818.95 – went to the school’s graphic arts and digital design program. The grant was used to purchase a drone and 360-degree camera. The equipment will help students be better prepared to use similar technology in their future careers.

The second grant – in the amount of $578.39 – went to the physical education program. The funds will be used to purchase recreational equipment for the students to lay the foundation for healthy lifestyle habits.

The third grant – in the amount of $377 – was awarded to the school’s chess club. The grant will be used to purchase equipment for the club. The group has begun competing with area schools.

HEF has a mission of promoting educational excellence and opportunity beyond the scope of the Houston R-1 school system by generating financial resources from private funds to provide support for education programs.
