Sales tax revenue in Houston and Cabool increased in October compared to last year, while use tax collections reconciled decreases in the county.
HOUSTON
A one-cent sales tax earmarked for parks, police and fire generated $74,097.61 for the month of October. That’s up $3,892.86 from the same period a year ago.
A one-cent general sales tax totaled $76,492.70. That’s an increase of $4,819.02 from the same period last year.
Two quarter-cent sales taxes – one for transportation and one for utility work – each totaled $18,524 in the month of October. That’s up $970 from the same period last year.
A use tax applied to online and out-of-state purchases totaled $15,371.23 for the month. That’s up $2,095.39 from the same period last year.
CABOOL
A one-cent general sales tax totaled $27,186.49. That’s a decrease of $1,000.80 from the same period last year.
A half-cent sales tax for transportation needs totaled $13,593.22 in the month of October. That’s down $500.32 from the same period last year.
A use tax applied to online and out-of-state purchases totaled $12,363.83 for the month. That’s up $5,876.99 from the same period last year.
A half-cent sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $13,266.65 for the month.
TEXAS COUNTY
For Texas County, merchants collect three half-cent sales taxes. Each totaled $104,043 for October, which represented a decrease of $2,404 on each from the same period a year ago.
The sales tax on online and out-of-state sales totaled $87,284.68 for the month. That was up $22,923.11 from the same month in 2023.
Revenue from a three-eighths sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $70,891.47, which was down $7,444.88 for the month.
