A Texas County man faces four felony charges after personnel with the Texas County Sheriff’s Department and South Central Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at his residence on Dec. 5.

Wesley A. Choate, 46, of 5235 Highway DD in Houston, is charged with trafficking drugs – second degree, delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.

A deputy involved in the operation reported that numerous illegal items were found during the search, which took place at about 9:30 a.m.:

  • Four smoking devices that tested positive for methamphetamine were located in a red backpack inside a bedroom.
  • Four whole capsules and two broken capsules were located on the living room table, and one whole capsule was in the backpack. One capsule tested positive for fentanyl.
  • About 20 small plastic bags were in the backpack, consistent with those used in possession, storage and transactions involving controlled substances.
  • One smoking device was in a bag inside a gun cabinet in the living room. It tested positive for meth.
  • A large glass sheet was on top of the refrigerator with a remnant of a substance on it that tested positive for meth.
  • A substance removed from the bathroom countertop was determined to be about 1.2 grams of meth.
  • A colt .32 caliber handgun and two magazines.
  • The receiver and forend of a Braztech firearm that was missing its barrel.

No suspects were located inside the residence at the time of the search.

At about 12:30 p.m., Choate was located at another residence in Texas County. Cash-only bond in the case is set at $10,000.
