The Houston High School girls basketball team picked up a win Monday night at Seymour.

After trailing 11-8 and 22-16 through the first and second quarters, the team rallied in the second half to manage a 36-33 victory.

“Tonight was a big win for us,” said HHS head coach Micah Lee. “We knew that we had to frustrate and shut #22 down.”

The team did just that, keeping Seymour senior Addison Ridenour to only 10 points.

“Gracyn and Summer did a phenomenal job of keeping her out of the equation,” Lee said.

Leading the way for Houston were seniors Lacey Cavaness with 16 points and Sophia Crites with 12.

“We never took the pressure off, going full court the whole game,” Lee said. “We kept the ball moving, with Lacey having some great looks from the perimeter and Sophia really coming alive on the inside and on defense.”

The win was the third of the season for Houston.

“We went and did exactly what we came there to do,” said Lee.

Houston (3-4) will face Bakersfield on Tuesday (Dec. 17) at home and takes on Norwood on Friday (Dec. 20) at home.

DIXON/NEWBURG

The Lady Tigers lost to a combined Dixon and Newburg team on the road last Thursday (Dec. 12).

The team held the score close through the first half, with Houston trailing 10-9 after the first quarter and 28-22 at halftime. But, the second half got away from the team as they eventually lost 51-34.

The team’s 7-for-28 effort at the free-throw line contributed to the loss. Additionally, two players fouled out and one received a technical foul.

Junior Gracyn McNiell led Houston with 15 points and Crites added 10.
