As the Houston High School girls basketball team prepares to play Thursday (Jan. 9) at Willow Springs, head coach Micah Lee shared her thoughts on the season so far.

“We started out on the right track, but we are struggling with being consistent,” said Lee when asked about the team’s start to the season. “We have lost a couple games that we definitely should have won.”

The team lost by 6 to Bakersfield at home on Dec. 17 and to Ava by the same margin on Dec. 23.

Still, Lee mentioned a positive narrative playing out in the early part of the season.

“Our freshman point guard, Ava [Koch], has really stepped up and helped us a lot defensively and with bringing the ball down.”

Lee said she looks forward to games against Salem (Jan. 13), Hartville (Feb. 10) and Ava (Feb. 20).

“We have played a lot of games here in the last month,” said Lee. “But we are taking this break to refocus in practice and hone in on the things we need to improve.”

The team has a 3-8 record entering their first South Central Association conference game against Willow Springs.
