Fire departments responded overnight to several calls of broken tree limbs hanging on electrical lines after an ice storm Sunday.

The weight was too much for tree branches, and that caused many incidents. On Sunday night, Houston’s fire department was called to Dooley, Quaker and North streets for tree limb incidents. The rural department responded on Hayes Drive. Other rural departments in the county responded to similar calls.

By 6 a.m. Monday, Intercounty Electric Cooperative Association reported about 200 outages in its coverage area in Texas County. Of those, about half were attributed to one location in western Texas County. There also were a few electrical issues as the ice developed in the City of Houston.

After being clear most of the day Sunday, U.S. 63 in Texas County is covered early Monday morning. The Missouri Department of Transportation also reported U.S. 60 in the county was partially covered.

Texas County school districts are closed.
