For my first Bookends of the new year, it only seems appropriate that “resolutions” comes to mind.

The definition of resolution is “a firm decision to do or not to do something.” A resolution for me in 2025 is to read more books. This may seem an odd resolution to make for a person that works at a library but unfortunately, when I am not working, I do not read as much as I would like. What is your reading goal for 2025?

Also, my first book display for January is “New Year” themed. Come check out books with “New Year,” “Year” and “Celebration” in the title.

January is the start of much colder weather. Please call your local branch or check out our Facebook page before coming to the library. We may be closed due to inclement weather. We want all our patrons and staff to be safe and warm out there!

Book Club is at the Houston branch every month and will kick off at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11. All book club dates for 2025 are listed on the library website and we welcome you to join!

Our Summersville branch is having its annual “Princess Tea Party” at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11. Kids of all ages are welcome, and for more information contact the Summersville location at 417-932-5261.

For kids: “Ollie” by Sarah Cullen; “The Truth About Dragons” by Julie Leung; “We Are Water Protectors” by Carole Lindstrom; and “Outside In” by Deborah Underwood.
