An organization announced a recruitment process for foster grandparents in Texas County.
The region is experiencing a shortage of foster grandparents to serve as mentors to assist children in local schools and Head Start Centers. “As we prepare to welcome the new year, we are calling on compassionate individuals to make a meaningful impact by joining the Foster Grandparents Program,” said Christopher Bell, Foster Grandparent Program director.
The program connects volunteers aged 55 and older with children in need of guidance, support and encouragement. “It offers seniors the opportunity to give back to the community in a deeply rewarding way by serving as mentors, tutors and role models, helping children develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed,” said Bell.
Participation in the program comes with several benefits, including:
- Tax-free stipends for income-eligible volunteers.
- Paid training to prepare for the role.
- Opportunities to build lasting relationships with children and other volunteers.
