Sales tax revenue in Houston and Cabool increased while Texas County remained steady in January 2025 compared to 2024, according to a recent report.
HOUSTON
A one-cent sales tax earmarked for parks, police and fire generated $99,954.72 for the month of January. That’s up $11,753.69 from the same period a year ago.
A one-cent general sales tax totaled $106,424.91. That’s an increase of $14,145.02 from the same period last year.
Two quarter-cent sales taxes – one for transportation and one for utility work – each totaled $24,989 in the month of January. That’s up $2,938 from the same period last year.
A use tax applied to online and out-of-state purchases totaled $16,551.06 for the month. That’s down $1,908.02 from the same period last year.
CABOOL
A one-cent general sales tax totaled $38,257.28. That’s an increase of $5,010.11 from the same period last year.
A half-cent sales tax for transportation needs totaled $19,128.63 in the month of January. That’s up $2,505.09 from the same period last year.
A use tax applied to online and out-of-state purchases totaled $14,394.36 for the month. That’s up $4,147.50 from the same period last year.
A half-cent sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $19,030.27 for the month.
TEXAS COUNTY
For Texas County, merchants collect three half-cent sales taxes. Each totaled $131,093 for January, which represented an increase of $10,396 on each from the same period a year ago.
The sales tax on online and out-of-state sales totaled $89,971.41 for the month. That was down $36,217.40 from the same month in 2024.
Revenue from a three-eighths-cent sales tax earmarked for law enforcement totaled $88,228.66, which was up $5,339.93 for the month.
