Members of the Texas County Commission handled several matters during meetings March 5 and 6.

Members:

  • Approved annual road maintenance agreements with Burdine, Sargent, Pierce, Carroll and Roubidoux townships.
  • Approved the collector/treasurer to provide monthly written reports to the commission containing all revenue and expenditures for the Tax Maintenance Fund including beginning and ending balances pursuant to state statues.
  • Discussed the Senior Tax Credit on the April ballot with the assessor.
  • Were informed that the sheriff’s department has ordered two trucks from Piney River Ford.
  • Signed an authorization for the sheriff’s office for a Highway Safety Grant.
  • Reviewed and acknowledged the verbal resignation of Jacob Gilmour as a full-time jailer effective Feb. 26.
  • Reviewed and acknowledged the hiring of Justin Kinder as a full-time jailer effective March 17, Michael Yost as a full-time deputy sheriff upon successful completion of the law enforcement academy (beginning duties March 19) and Zachary Cooley as a full-time deputy sheriff assigned to the jail effective March 5.
  • Reviewed and acknowledged the resignation of Tyson Troutman, collector/treasurer’s office, effective March 4.
  • Reviewed and acknowledged the hiring of Amber Murray as a part-time deputy in the public administrator’s office, effective March 5.

In other business, commissioners heard from:

  • David Scantlin with updates on townships and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
  • Jason Byrd, Cape Electrical Supplies, concerning providing products to the county.
  • James Huff, Simmons Bank, to discuss county bank accounts.
