The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
- On Feb. 22, a 66-year-old Licking man reported a break-in and theft at his Shafer Road residence.
The man told a deputy that a 44-year-old man (also from Licking) had stolen a safe that contained multiple vehicle titles, a .22 caliber pistol, a bottle of pain pills, some paperwork and $600 cash. He said the suspect was in jail in Phelps County.
Investigation is ongoing.
- On March 13, a deputy responded to Texas County Memorial Hospital regarding a report of a dog bite.
The officer made contact with a 42-year-old man there who said he was feeding his dogs at his Murr Road residence at Cabool and one of them bit off a chunk of his thumb. He said the dogs were up to date on shots.
- On March 7, a deputy was dispatched regarding a report of property damage at a Lone Pine Road residence at Mountain Grove.
The officer made contact with a 52-year-old man there who said a section of fence was down. He said a corner post and braces were down, and an electric fence and insulators were damaged continuing 400 feet down the road. He also said a telephone box had been run over at the intersection of Lone Pine Road and Forbes Road.
The man said he followed tire tracks down Forbes Road and observed more damage to other properties.
The officer observed that the tire tracks appeared to be made by a tractor-trailer rig with dual tires. The man said he saw a tractor-trailer parked and shot off on the road at about 3:30 a.m., and he provided registration numbers that were from a vehicle registered in Indiana.
The cost of the damage was estimated at $16,800. Investigation is ongoing.
- On March 19, a deputy responded to a fight in progress between two inmates in the Texas County Jail.
Upon arrival, the officer determined the fight involved a 35-year-old homeless man and a 21-year-old Cabool man.
The 35-year-old didn’t wish to pursue charges, but the 21-year-old did, and a probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking an assault charge against the older man.
Both parties refused medical treatment.
