The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

  • On Feb. 22, a 74-year-old Licking woman reported that a man and woman were in the attic of her Craddock Drive residence.

When deputies arrived, the woman told them the same thing. An officer then advised the woman that her house didn’t have an attic, but an attempt would be made to contact the alleged suspects.

Deputies later found that the suspects were in Kansas City. The woman called the sheriff’s department again later that night and called officers liars and claimed that the suspects were still in her attic.

Paperwork was filled for a 96-hour mental evaluation for the woman.

  • A deputy responded on March 7 to a report of a burglary at a Golden Drive residence at Raymondville.

The officer made contact with a 68-year-old man there who showed where the home had been broken into through a door. The officer observed damaged wood around the doorway, indicating forceable entry from the outside.

The man told the deputy that property in the house had been left to him by the prior owners, and he was unsure of everything inside. Items that were confirmed to be stolen included a four-wheel wagon valued at $400 and some miscellaneous tools.

Investigation is ongoing.

  • On Feb. 26, a 46-year-old man reported that his canoe had been stolen from a property he owns on Holmes Road at Cabool.

The man told an investigating deputy that a 42-year-old Cabool woman had the canoe and wouldn’t return it to him. He showed proof of ownership via a bill of sale.

Contact was made with the woman, and she said the man had retrieved the canoe about two years earlier when the two separated, and she didn’t have it. A shop building and barn on the property were searched, and the canoe wasn’t found.

The deputy noted that the man and woman both live on the property and both have belongings there, and they have been settling property disputes in civil court.

  • On Feb. 13, a deputy responded to a report of a vehicle stolen from a Mineral Drive residence in Houston.

A 30-year-old man there told the officer he had been watching over his grandparents’ property while they were on vacation, and that their 2000 Plymouth van valued at $3,000 was missing.

On Feb. 14, a representative of a bank contacted the sheriff’s office and explained that the van had not been stolen, but had been repossessed on the authority of the bank.
