The Texas County Library Foundation reported this week several contributions have been received for a recently announced donor tree for the new Houston branch of the county library system in downtown Houston.

Crafted by Paragon Fabrication, a Springfield company, the artwork will highlight those whose generosity made the new library possible. A $500 contribution allows anyone to place their name or that of a business on it. Others have chosen to highlight a loved one as part of a memorial.

The $2.6 million project covers 7,200 square feet will be debt-free when it likely opens later this summer. The current library has been at its Walnut Street location since 1950. The new space will more than double the amount available and also includes a children’s section, a business center to aid local entrepreneurs and a community meeting room.

A committee recently formed to work on a plan for landscaping the grounds.

There is still a need for additional donations as plans have started for furnishings, including expanded public access stations for internet use, various tables and equipment for a business center and conference room. The library’s existing shelving will be used at the new location.
