The national elections are over, and we’ve done our duty for the Country. Now it’s time to show our support at the local level and vote on issues that will directly affect us folks living in Texas County.
The April 8 election specifically targets the area and townships in which we live. We have many important decisions to make, with the most crucial being the Senior Tax Freeze.
If passed, the ballot initiative for the Senior Tax Freeze will allow seniors to freeze their current tax rates at the 2024 real estate tax amount.
For seniors who are blessed with an abundance of wealth and feel that such a measure might hurt the county budget, there’s good news. The Senior Tax Freeze can still be approved, and you can pay the full tax increase (when taxes go up) by simply not filling out the mandatory exemption form required to take advantage of the tax freeze. This will allow seniors, especially those raising grandchildren or on a limited budget, to freeze their real estate taxes while ensuring a manageable response to today’s ever-increasing tax bills.
Let’s give everyone a choice to help protect their livelihood in today’s climate of inflation and uncertainty.
