Members of the Texas County Commission handled several matters during meetings March 26 and 27.

Members:

  • Met with Brian Logan, National Forest Service, concerning easements on roads through National Forest areas.
  • Approved a request from the collector/treasurer to waive interest and penalties on personal property due to office error.
  • Planned government days for area eighth graders.
  • Reviewed and acknowledged a written notice of resignation from Dakota Wade as a full-time deputy effective March 21.
  • Reviewed and acknowledged the transfer of Zachary Cooley from jail deputy to patrol deputy effective March 25.
  • Toured the new Texas County Library at Pine and First Streets. It is expected to open later this year.

In other business, commissioners heard from:

  • Sheriff Scott Lindsey on inmate issues.
  • Cody Dailing on concerns with roads in Upton Township.
  • Grant Wilson, Congressman Jason Smith’s office, on recent storms and other area matters.
  • Mary Ellen Higashi, Lynch Township, who stated the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) needs copies of Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) bridge inspections.
  • Marilyn Hayes, Jackson Township, on issues with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
  • Madelyn Miller on township issues and planning commission members.
