The Houston High School track and field teams continued the 2025 season Monday (April 14) at the Osage Warpath meet in Osage Beach.

The big annual event included athletes from 22 schools. Osage doesn’t keep team scoring, and the top 4 finishers in each event received a medal.

HHS junior Mason Dodson set a new school record in the javelin with a toss of 46.66m, beating the previous record of 45.51m by more than a meter.

The Lady Tigers continued their strong season, taking first in two events, second in five events and third in two.

“The girls team is competing at high level and have high expectations to match,” said head coach Mike Tottingham. “Our boys are getting better every track meet we go to and set several PRs in Osage. Throwing and distance has been the backbone for the boys team this year, but we had some encouraging results from our sprinters and hopefully that trend continues as we pass the midway point of the season.

“All my athletes have great work ethics and attitudes and it is lot of fun to watch the progression of both teams this season.”

HHS GIRLS MEDALISTS

  • 100-Meter Dash: Adyson Dailing, 1st, 13.16.
  • 200-Meter Dash: Kayla Wagner, 2nd, 27.68.
  • 400-Meter Dash: Kayla Wagner, 2nd, 1:03.56.
  • 800-Meter Run: Kristen Ely, 2nd, 2:32.35.
  • 3,200-Meter Run: Kristen Ely, 2nd, 12:59.93; Allie Benoist, 4th, 15:37.96.
  • 100-Meter Hurdles: Adyson Dailing, 3rd, 17.78.
  • 300 Meter Hurdles: Adyson Dailing, 2nd, 51.14.
  • 4×100-Meter Relay: 3rd, 53.70 (Summer Seago, Kayla Wagner, Marie Palmer, Adyson Dailing).

“This was the first time this group has ran together and the first sprint relay that Kayla and Adyson have ever ran,” Tottingham said. “We did not have a great entry time and were unfortunately running in a slow heat. With all of that going against them they were not that far off from the school record and should have a decent amount of room for improvement.”

  • Triple Jump: Kayla Wagner, 3rd, 9.72m.
  • Javelin: Kynlee Weaver, 1st, 31.9m; Summer Seago, 4th, 28.56m.

“Three of the top four Jav throwers in our district were at this meet and Kynlee came out on top so that was a very good result for her moving forward,” Tottingham said. “Summer is starting to figure Jav out and hopefully we will have a 30-meter-plus throw from her soon.”

HHS BOYS MEDALISTS

  • 800-Meter Run: Dillon Shelton, 4th, 2:18.55.
  • 3,200-Meter Run: Jack Sawyer, 2nd, 11:05.69; Riley Talbott, 4th, 11:56.31.
  • 4×800-Meter Relay: 2nd, 9:27.46, 2nd (Jackson Evetts, Kane Crawford, Riley Talbott, Dillon Shelton).

“This time gave the boys the best time in our district and they keep on getting better as the season progresses,” Tottingham said.

  • Triple Jump: Bryson Jordan, 3rd, 11.97m.
  • Javelin: Mason Dodson, 2nd, 46.66m (school record).

There was also a JV division at the meet.

“That gave several of our younger runners and throwers a chance to compete against their own age group,” Tottingham said.

The two HHS squads will be back in action Thursday (April 17) in the Zizzer Relays at West Plains.
