The City of Houston held a ceremony to rename the Houston Municipal Swimming Pool to the “Toni M. McKinney City of Houston Municipal Pool” on Saturday.

“A lot of people have their name put on something because of a financial donation or something to that effect,” said Robbie Mortensen, parks and recreation director. “Toni has earned the pool being named after her through countless hours of time.”

“At the Houston Parks & Recreation Department, we value time over any amount of money donated. Toni has trained countless lifeguards, coached countless kids in swim team and changed countless young people’s lives.”

McKinney has served as the swim team coach for the majority of the seasons since the late 1990s. She has also served in various other roles including managing the pool, giving lessons and instructing lifeguards.

Members of the Houston High School building trades and welding programs made and installed the new signage.
