The Community Betterment and Arts Council began its annual “Fantastic Reasons to Walk and Ride” program for Houston kindergarten classes on Monday.
This will be the 15th year that the group has provided biking helmets, helmet storage bags that have a reflective strip for students to wear while they bike, and safe routes to school for the students. The materials also include a coloring book, crayons and pencils, and information pertaining to concussions.
After practicing using hand turn signals at stop signs, seeing demonstrations about the strength of biking helmets and practice in walking and riding, each student gets to ride a bike around a course.
Two bikes will be given away in a drawing after the program is finished.
Those helping with the program are Delbert and Elaine Campbell, Jim and Wilda McNiell, Judy Rouse, Kay Jordan, Ann Tottingham and the school resource officer.
The Opportunity Sheltered Workshop helps with providing the storage bags for the program.
