The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
- On May 6, a deputy was dispatched regarding a report of unlawful use of a firearm at a Reed Road residence at Licking.
The officer spoke with a 45-year-old woman there who said she was driving home from work, and as she passed by a 54-year-old neighbor man he put his right hand into his coat pocket and she observed the barrel of the gun pointing toward her. She said as she got further away from him, he pulled the gun out and raised it in front of him toward she and her 24-year-old daughter.
The daughter confirmed the story.
A report was sent to the county prosecutor.
- On April 25, a deputy was dispatched regarding a domestic disturbance at a Route 17 residence at Success.
The officer made contact with a 56-year-old woman there who said her 60-year-old husband had threatened to shoot her during an argument and that he had access to firearms in the house.
The officer spoke with the man, and he said he hadn’t threatened to shoot his wife, but he had threatened to shoot himself.
Due to the man’s actions and comment, the deputy determined he was in a mental state that could jeopardize his safety. He was taken to jail for safekeeping.
- On May 4, a deputy monitoring traffic at Route 32 and Staples Lane at Licking observed a Dodge pickup with a man driving who the officer knew had revoked driving status.
The officer conducted a traffic stop on Route 32 and made contact with the driver, a 48-year-old Licking man. Signs of impairment were observed, and the man was ultimately arrested for driving while intoxicated.
He was taken to jail and a probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking multiple charges, including resisting.
- On April 24, a deputy responded to Houston Elementary School regarding a report of a 7-year-old boy with a black eye.
During the investigation, with assistance by the Houston Police Department and the Division of Family Services, bruising and scratches were observed by the boy’s eye. Officers went to the boy’s residence in Bucyrus and spoke with the boy’s parents, and they said the injury was caused by a large cat. Investigation is ongoing.
