The Texas County Sheriff's Department was called to handle a variety of investigations.

The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

  • On June 8, a deputy was dispatched regarding a report of a domestic disturbance at a Route 17 residence in Bucyrus.

The officer made contact with a 57-year-old man there who said his 52-year-old wife stated she was going to leave but wasn’t leaving. He told the officer there hadn’t been any physical altercation, but he wanted to get a blanket back from the woman.

The woman told the deputy she had been trying to leave, but the man wouldn’t let her, and she didn’t want to give him the blanket because it was hers.

The man then said she could keep it.

The woman then left in a moving van towing a vehicle.

The woman later called dispatched requesting to speak to a different deputy because the first one had taken her husband’s side.

The first officer tried contacting her again but was unable to and left her a voicemail.

  • Grant L. Lewis, 29, of Farrell Lane in Raymondville, was arrested June 7 for having an active Texas County warrant for two felony charges of unlawful use of a weapon.

A deputy made the arrest at Lewis’ residence and took him to jail. Cash-only bond in the case is set at $10,000.

  • Bradley D. Smith, 38, of Pleasant Road at Cabool, was issued citations for driving while intoxicated and speeding in excess of 20 miles per hour.

At about 10:48 p.m., a deputy observed a 4-door Subaru traveling at a high rate of speed on southbound U.S. 63 near the intersection with Highway H. The officer measured the vehicle’s speed at 117 miles per hour.

The officer caught up with the car near Pleasant Road, and it came to a stop at a residence near the highway.

When the driver, Smith, and a passenger got out, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol. When the deputy advised Smith of the speed, he said they had just returned from bowling, and he was showing his friend how fast his car could go.

Smith was arrested and taken to jail.
