The Texas County Sheriff's Department was called to handle a variety of investigations.

The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

  • On May 22, a 46-year-old Houston woman reported that an Ego electric mini-bike valued at $2,200 had been stolen.

The woman told an investigating deputy that her husband had been riding the bike the previous night when he was arrested on U.S. 63 near Twin Bridges. The unit was left on the side of the road, and it was gone when she went to retrieve it.

There are no suspects and investigation is ongoing.

  • While on patrol in the Success area at about 11 p.m. May 23, a deputy observed a black SUV with no taillights pull out of the parking lot at Pittman’s Store onto Route 32.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and a computer check revealed that the driver, a 43-year-old Success man, had no valid driver’s license. He also had no insurance.

  • At about 12:30 a.m. May 29, deputies were dispatched to a Dixon Road residence near Licking regarding a report of a domestic incident involving a gun.

Contact was made with a 63-year-old woman there who was holding a knife. An officer told her to drop it, and she did.

An officer asked the woman to describe the situation and she began explaining how there were people in the trees all over the yard who left whenever authorities arrived. She was then asked to clarify what happened with her husband, and she said he had hit her on the neck with a handgun and placed the barrel to her forehead.

The husband, 60, was then questioned, and he said her story wasn’t true and he had video to prove it. An officer observed the video which showed the woman pulling a pistol out of a bag and pointing it at the man while he was sitting in a chair.

The man was seen getting up from the chair and wrestling the gun away from her.

The woman was placed in handcuffs and taken to the Texas County Jail for further questioning. A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking charges against her.

  • At about 2 p.m. May 31, a deputy responded to a Stemmons Drive residence at Cabool regarding a report of a dog bite.

The officer made contact with a 64-year-old man there who said he was walking his dog when his neighbor’s pit bull attacked it. The man said he kicked the pit bull, and it bit his foot.

The man said he didn’t wish to pursue charges and just wanted the incident documented.

The deputy made contact with the 26-year-old woman who owns the pit bull, and she said she was away when the alleged incident occurred. She also said the dog was locked in the garage and didn’t believe it bit the man. She said the dog is a service dog that belongs to her son, who is mentally challenged. She produced its credentials.

The officer advised the woman to quarantine the dog for 10 days.
