E. Nadine (Grose) Lay, age 90, was born on March 12, 1935, to Everett Samuel Grose and Elva Marie (Miles) Grose at Elk Creek, Missouri. She married Kenneth C. Lay on Jan. 10, 1957, by Aunt Sadie E. Miles, to this union four children were born: Tonya (Gene) Foster, Houston, Missouri; Kenny Lay, Houston; Lexie (Jeff) Searcy, Ava, Missouri; and Kelly (Susie) Lay, Houston.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Elva Grose; brother, Ray Grose; son, Kenny Lay; and grandson, David Foster. Nadine is survived by her husband, Kenneth; sister, Ila Marie Beller; three children, 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, a total of 52 grands and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Houston, and was baptized on Nov. 17, 1947.
Nadine graduated from Houston High School in 1954, then attended Draughn’s Business School in Springfield, Missouri. After marriage, she decided to stay at home and raise their kids and take care of the farm. She lived at the same address for the last 61 years. Her hobbies were embroidering, reading and writing about the history of her family. She also loved spending time with the grandkids and cooking for the whole family.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Pine Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston. Condolences may be left at evansfh.com.
