The annual Independence Day Parade and a fireworks show are among activities planned for Saturday, June 28 in Houston. 

The Houston Area Chamber of Commerce intends to host a vendor festival, police dunk tank, food and other festivities during the day. 

The Independence Day Parade sponsored by the chamber starts at 6 p.m. downtown. Lineup begins at 5 p.m. in the school parking lot. The route will start at First Street, go to Chestnut, Grand Avenue and end at Walnut. The American Legion Post 41 will give out free “Freedom Dogs” (hot dogs) from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Lone Star Plaza.

The City of Houston will host its fireworks display at approximately 9 p.m. at the Houston Memorial Airport. 

Red is the shot location, no one is allowed inside that area. Orange is the road barricades. Yellow is all parking areas for spectators. Blue is concessions. Pink is portable restrooms.

The setup will be the same as last year, said Robbie Smith, fire chief. Spectators can come into the area from Spruce Street, Airport Road from Route 17 or Hawthorn Street.
