The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission last week approved spending about $29.3 million in Texas County over the next five years.

The projects are included in the 2026-2030 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).

The program lists transportation projects planned by state and regional planning agencies from July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2030.

TEXAS COUNTY PROJECTS

In 2025-2026, MoDOT approved spending about $1.25 million for pavement resurfacing on Route VV from Route 137 to the end of state maintenance in Dent County.

In 2026-2027, about $7.76 million in work is expected. Projects include:

  • Pavement resurfacing on Route 137 from Route 17 at Yukon to U.S. 63 at Licking, about 24 miles. The cost is estimated at about $3.2 million.
  • Pavement resurfacing on U.S. 63 from Route E to Route B, about 2.7 miles. The cost is about $1.65 million.
  • Pavement resurfacing of Route B from U.S. 63 to the end of state maintenance, about 23.2 miles. The outlay costs $2.91 million.

’2027-’28 — Route K resurfacing from Route KK to Route 17. The cost is $662,000.

’2028-’29 — Bridge replacements over Potters Creek north of Cabool on U.S. 63 and Beeler Creek over U.S. 60 are planned in 2028-2029. Those projects are estimated at about $15.5 million. Bridge replacement over Roubidoux on Route M and bridge rehabilitation of the Route 17 bridge over the Jacks Fork River is proposed for 2029-2030. The cost is about $4.12 million. The latter project might not occur if a Missouri highway construction sales tax is repealed or the bid exceeds the project estimate, MoDOT said.

PLAN BIGGEST TO DATE

The five-year program is one of the largest to date and includes additional funding from General Revenue, passed by the Missouri General Assembly and signed by Gov. Mike Kehoe. Funding is allocated for improvements to Interstates 70 and 44, the fixing of low-volume minor roads and improvements to bridges, airports and rail crossings.

The STIP makes available $13.3 billion of federal and state revenues for all modes of transportation over the next five years. Of the $13.3 billion, the STIP details $9.5 billion in contractor awards for road and bridge construction – averaging approximately $1.9 billion per year.

“We’ve seen unprecedented levels of investments in and improvements to the state’s transportation system over the past few years, and this program is a continuation of that,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Director Ed Hassinger. “The recent growth of this program is made possible by an increased motor fuel tax (That went into effect July 1) and additional General Revenue and federal transportation investments, and this plan forward shows our full commitment to deliver this major investment for the travelers across Missouri.”

The STIP details improvements to Missouri’s 33,814 miles of highway and 10,427 bridges and culverts. The draft version of the STIP was released in May for public review, with MoDOT receiving 73 comments.
