A Houston police officer was injured Friday during a pursuit of a wanted suspect, according to charges filed in Texas County Associate Circuit Court.
Cooper A. L. Clayton, born in 2002 and believed homeless, was wanted following a shoplifting incident at Houston Walmart Supercenter.
He is charged with felony resisting arrest, misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor stealing.
According to a report, he failed to follow a police officer’s commands and fled on foot. Clayton ran through multiple business properties, disregarded repeated commands to stop and caused vehicles to come to a complete stop in the roadway.
He was eventually apprehended in a wooded area several yards from the initial location where he fled. According to the report, he told the officer he gave chase because he knew he had warrants for his arrest and had stolen clothes.
The Houston officer sustained scrapes to his left arm after falling down an embankment.
Clayton is on probation for stealing. He had an active felony warrant issued by the Missouri Division of Probation and Parole.
