The Cabool City Council on Monday approved paying half the grant writing expense for a project to restore the Cabool Saddle Club.
Stacy McCallister, Midland Ag, and Bob Reed, TMB Auto Parts, told the council they have been working on a grant for Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) credits.
According to McCallister and Reed, the club’s facilities on Cannady Lane are in deteriorating condition and they believe it could be used for concerts, bull rides and other activities.
The grant – which could range from $350,000 to $500,000 – would fund new bleachers for up to 2,000 people, rebuilt shoots for bull rides, upgraded lighting and ADA compliant restrooms.
After a motion to fund the entire $10,000 needed for grant writing died without a second, the council unanimously approved covering half the expense.
The purpose of NAP credits, which are administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, is for community projects that strengthen economic development. These would be 70% state tax credits.
