The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

  • On Sept. 7, a deputy responded to a report of a break-in at a U.S. 63 property at Cabool.

A 66-year-old man there told the officer he had noticed items moved around in his cabin but didn’t find anything missing or any evidence of entry. The man said family members had permission to use the cabin but would call him if they did.

While the man was completing a voluntary statement, his son contacted him and said he had been at the cabin and was responsible for moving the items.

  • On July 13, a deputy responded to the Texas County Jail regarding a report of intercepted narcotics.

The officer spoke with a jailer who said a 15-year-old girl had dropped off three Bibles for a 36-year-old female inmate, and one of the Bibles contained suspected methamphetamine. The deputy observed a Bible with a ripped open spine, and a crystalline substance in the opening that tested positive as meth.

The female inmate was questioned, and she named a 44-year-old Houston man as the person who had put the meth in the Bible.

The man was interviewed on Aug. 15 and reportedly admitted to putting the drugs in the Bible. He also stated that the girl who brought it to the jail had no knowledge of the meth’s presence.

A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking charges against the man.
