A police department in Texas County will receive a grant to enhance roadway safety.
The Licking Police Department was awarded grant funding from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to support a year-long Hazardous Moving Violation (HMV) Enforcement Project starting Oct 1. through Sept. 30, 2026.
This initiative will allow the department to dedicate additional resources toward improving roadway safety within Licking and surrounding areas, which will be 100% funded by the grant. Throughout the next year, officers will conduct focused enforcement operations targeting violations that contribute to serious traffic crashes, including speeding, careless and reckless driving, distracted driving, and failure to obey traffic control devices.
The goal is to reduce traffic accidents and traffic-related injuries by increasing compliance with local/state traffic laws and encouraging safer driving behaviors.
“This project demonstrates our continued commitment to protecting our community and ensuring that residents and visitors can travel safely through the Licking area. We are grateful to MoDOT and NHTSA for their partnerships and support in making this year-long enforcement project possible. Together, we are working toward safer roads for everyone,” the department said in a press release.
